After meeting my husband, the same month that I graduated from college (UTSA) with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, I quickly began a new world of my soon-to-be husband starting his own business…
He actually had started his business on his own, before he met me, but he started making bigger leaps happen after he met me. So since things were small and manageable at the time, I was able to take care of the bookwork part of the business for him while I also went to work for an architect close by.
I got married to my husband in March of 2006 and we ended up getting pregnant on our honeymoon! So I decided it would be best for me to quit working for the architect that I had been working for after our son was born and I would be able to stay at home to raise him while my husband worked and I could do bookwork from home when time allowed.
As our son quickly grew and we found ourselves going to take photos at a place in the mall on a fairly regular basis, trying to capture his first year, which led to me deciding I needed a camera of my own. Being the creative person I am, I took to photography very quickly and loved it. I dove right in and starting photographing other peoples babies and children, especially newborns. I then decided to start doing wedding photography as well and ending up doing that until our second son came along in September of 2010. I then realized I was taking on too much and needed to focus on raising our boys.
So I put my photography business on the back burner and just focused on my husband’s business, which is heavy equipment construction. He pretty much exclusively works on private properties, ranches and small lots as well, building ranch roads and some paved ranch roads as well, clearing brush and cedar trees and building stock tanks. He also has built a lot of arenas around here for all the horses that are out in this area. In addition to that, he also cuts and bales hay in the summer.
I took a pretty long break from doing any work besides for my husband’s business and raising our two boys, which when they were younger, took a lot of my time. With them now getting older and working in the summers it has given me more time to myself and I have felt a pretty strong pull to do something that would help other people, while also being a creative outlet for myself.
I love making soaps, body butters and more for myself, but I finally decided to take on making it to sell to other people. It has been a true labor of love and I have found it to be something that makes me so happy to hear how much my products help people. I tend to like more natural healing products and things made as least processed as possible and I feel like there are a lot of other people out there that feel the same way. I hope my new business is a blessing for others as well as myself.
